What Are HSL Sliders And How Do They Affect Your Photos?

HSL sliders are a fundamental tool in photo editing.

By adjusting these sliders, you can modify how colors appear in your photos. HSL stands for Hue, Saturation, and Luminance.

Saturation is the intensity of a color, how vivid and strong it appears.

By decreasing the saturation, your color will appear gray and muted. On the other hand, if you increase the saturation, the color becomes more intense and vibrant.

HSL In Black And White Photos

After converting your photo to black and white, you can still use the HSL sliders, however, only the Luminance values are available.

For example, targeting the red color allows you to adjust the brightness of areas that were originally red, in the colored photo.
